ACC Lightning Carnival

David Walker (Head of Health & Physical Education) & The HPE Team

On Monday 12 May, our Year 7 students stepped onto the sporting stage with pride and excitement at the annual ACC Lightning Carnival. For many, it was their very first opportunity to represent Kolbe Catholic College in sport—and what a debut it was!

With more than 20 Kolbe teams competing in Netball, Soccer, AFL, Basketball and Ultimate Frisbee across four venues in Perth’s western suburbs, the day was packed with energy, fun and team spirit. The focus wasn’t on scores or ladders—it was all about participation, camaraderie and school pride.

“The best part was putting on the Kolbe colours and giving it everything on the court,” shared one student. “Everyone was cheering and supporting each other—it didn’t matter if you won or lost.”

Our young athletes displayed incredible sportsmanship throughout the day. They encouraged each other, celebrated goals, laughed through challenges and truly embodied what it means to be part of the Kolbe community. The carnival atmosphere was electric, and friendships were forged both on and off the field.

Another student reflected, “It wasn’t just about the sport—it was about being part of a team and having fun. I felt proud to represent Kolbe.”

A big thank you must go to our Year 10 students, who took on leadership roles as coaches and team managers. Their support and guidance made a big impact, helping our Year 7s feel confident and connected throughout the day.

Behind the scenes, our dedicated Sports staff worked tirelessly to bring this massive event together. Their planning and preparation ensured the day ran seamlessly, allowing our students to focus on what matters most—getting involved and having a great time.

The ACC Lightning Carnival has once again proven to be a highlight of the sporting year, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting journey ahead for our newest students.

Well done to all involved. You’ve made Kolbe proud. Go Kolbe!
