AI Power at Kolbe

Stephanie Griffiths (Director of Professional Practice & Learning)

As you may have seen in the news, Kolbe has been very fortunate to be selected as one of ten CEWA schools to take part in a pilot program with ‘Nurture AI’, an Irish start-up.

Nurture is a certified Microsoft Partner due to their Microsoft Teams integration and being winners of the 2022 International e-Assessment awards for “Best Formative Assessment Project”. With their great track record, which is already showing positive gains in student outcomes, we wanted to jump on board with a small team of teachers at the College to trial the technology with the Western Australian Curriculum.

Nurture AI works as a feedback cycle, driven by teacher input. Sources of information and syllabus points selected by the teacher, to direct the program and to produce questions or assessments. Students then write their answers, upload them, and the app will mark the submission under the guidance of teacher prompts. Nurture makes corrections and provides suggested feedback. Each step along the way, teachers will be prompting and correcting the technology and conducting final edits on the feedback. A crucial part of closing the feedback loop is that students must reflect on the feedback before they can view their results.

So far, it looks to be a really exciting piece of technology! We can’t wait to see what benefits it will have for both our students and teachers!
