Extracurriculars are back!

Jenefer Wiltschut (Head of Wellness)

Being mentally healthy is essential for overall wellbeing, and good mental health is more than just the absence of mental illness. It’s about dealing with life’s challenges, maintaining relationships, contributing to the community, and taking pleasure and satisfaction from life. It is very common however, no matter our age, that we experience minor hassles that stress us and prevent us from doing these things well.

By being proactive and prioritising our mental health and wellbeing, we can build resilience to these stressors and create wonderful support networks that can help us when we need it. WA’s “Act Belong Commit” campaign is a long running initiative based on this very principle, which encourages young people to build better mental health by being active, having a sense of belonging and committing to purpose in life. Their slogan….

Act – Do something;

Belong – Do something with someone;

Commit – Do something meaningful.

…. recognises the importance of developing connections, keeping mentally, physically and spiritually active, as well as building purpose in life. Supported by Mentally Healthy WA and Curtin University, Act Belong Commit provides an abundance of mental health support to Western Australian’s and encourages local organisations to offer people opportunities to connect.

Every term, Kolbe also offers many opportunities for our students to connect with each other, as well as staff, via our extracurricular program. Many of the activities offered require no previous skill or experience and are open to everyone. With so many obvious benefits of getting involved in the extracurricular life at Kolbe, we encourage students to step forward to participate in one of the many activities and programs on offer, and keep an eye on Max’s Mail or access the timetable on Seqta for all the details.

Alternatively, if there is an activity you would like to be involved in but don’t see it on offer, please speak with your student leaders or one of our wellbeing team to see if we can get it up and running.
