Growing Strong Learners

Rachelle Kelly – Head of Learning Excellence and Engagement

There has been a real buzz around our weekly after-school study sessions, with senior students across ATAR, UniReady, General and VET pathways showing outstanding commitment to their learning. It has been encouraging to see students choosing to stay back after school to work collaboratively, ask questions, refine their study habits and take active steps towards achieving their goals.

At Kolbe, we recognise that strong learning is developed over time through positive routines, effective study strategies and a willingness to continually improve. These study sessions provide a supportive and focused environment where students can learn with and from one another. As a peer-supported space, students are encouraged to share ideas, discuss challenges, explain concepts and build confidence together.

A key focus of the program has been metacognition, helping students better understand how they learn, while also exploring practical strategies that support organisation, long-term growth and academic achievement. Research continues to highlight the benefits of collaborative learning, including increased confidence, stronger engagement and improved critical thinking skills.

While the sessions currently focus on senior students, the College is also working to support Years 7-10 in developing positive study habits early. As part of this approach, Kolbe has partnered with Atomi, an online learning platform that provides curriculum-aligned video lessons, interactive quizzes and personalised revision tools for students in Years 7-12.

To further support families, Atomi will host a free webinar for Kolbe parents at 4 pm on Thursday 4 June, offering practical advice on how parents can help students build confidence, stay organised and make study more manageable at home.

Through opportunities such as these, Kolbe Catholic College continues to foster curious, reflective and confident learners inspired to achieve their personal best.
