On Thursday 3 September, our Year 9 students hosted their families for the Year 9 Father’s Day Breakfast, enjoying a lovely morning with their father figures and a delicious breakfast provided by the Year 11 Hospitality students. The event was an opportunity to spend quality time together, sit down for a chat and enjoy some amazing food.
Students and their father figures settled in with drinks before the morning opened with a welcome and prayer. This was followed by breakfast and the distribution of raffle tickets for the chance to win some fantastic prizes, kindly donated by Thingz Gifts Rockingham, Camping World and The Wellard.
Dads also had a chance to shine in the best dad joke competition, giving students, teachers and other dads a good laugh and an eye roll too! Kolbe dad Mick Harkin took the title of Best Dad Joke for 2026, taking home a special meat tray. His winning joke was: “Why did the teacher have to wear sunglasses? Because her class was so bright.”
The laughter helped create special memories, captured in photos from the photo booth. Throughout the morning, a slideshow also gave students and their father figures a chance to revisit memories they had shared.
Kolbe grandfather Tony shared: “It was an eye opener to see the very impressive classroom facilities at Kolbe… such an improvement from my school days in the early 1960s. Thank you to the hospitality students who cooked up a delicious breakfast.”
Events like this help bring our students and their families closer, giving them a chance to show their appreciation for the people they love. With Father’s Day approaching, the breakfast was the perfect opportunity for students to celebrate their father figures and welcome them into our school community.
The morning was made possible by the hard work of the Year 11 Hospitality students, Home Economics staff Ms Edgell and Mrs Barraclough, and other assisting teachers, including Head of Year 9, Mr Matthews. Thank you also to the students and their father figures who joined us to celebrate the impact these special people have had on their lives and all they have done.
