Headspace Youth Summit

Jenefer Wiltschut (Head of Wellbeing)

This term, fifteen of our Year 7, 8, and 9 students were selected to participate in an online Youth Summit led by Headspace, Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation. The event brought together young voices from across the country to engage directly with headspace staff—including their CEO—and explore the power of youth advocacy.

The summit wasn’t just about learning—it was about being heard. Students had the opportunity to contribute their own experiences and insights to help shape the future of youth mental health services. They explored how organisations like headspace work with young people, and why youth voice is essential in designing programs that genuinely meet the needs of those they serve.

“It was such an amazing and inspiring experience” – Phoebe (Year 9)

Throughout the 3-hour session, our students developed a stronger understanding of how their voices can drive real change. The focus of the summit was not on personal mental health strategies, but on the bigger picture: how young people can play an active role in influencing decisions that affect their wellbeing and communities.

“I really enjoyed meeting new people and getting to express my ideas” – Kiana (Year 7)

“I really loved how they took my ideas, and gave me feedback” – Aoibh (Year 8)

It was an inspiring experience that left our students feeling empowered and more connected to a national conversation about mental health and the role of advocacy in making a difference. We’re proud of all who applied and participated—you represented our school with curiosity, compassion, and courage!
