Despite the grey skies and rainy weather, spirits were high as the Rice House community gathered to celebrate their House Patron, Blessed Edmund Rice. The annual House Day was a meaningful occasion filled with reflection, connection, and a deep sense of belonging.
The celebration began with a special Mass led by Fr. Victor. House Captains Mackenzie and Ronan (Year 12) opened the service with a heartfelt speech highlighting the relevance of Blessed Edmund’s legacy in today’s world. They reminded everyone that “Edmund’s story and charism remind us that faith must always lead to action, but also about forming hearts and shaping character.”
For many, the day was about more than just celebration—it was about connection. Macy, a Year 11 Student Counsellor, shared,
“Rice House Day was an amazing experience. It was so nice to catch up with friends in the House and learn more about Edmund Rice during Mass.”
As the event came to a close, Ben delivered a powerful reflection on the House motto: “Do ever so little for God.” His message focused on the impact of small, kind actions and the power of being present for one another. He reminded students that as ‘humble servants,’ it is often the quiet moments of support and compassion that carry the greatest meaning—key traits of the Ricean identity.
Year 8 student Evie summed up the experience simply but beautifully:
“Rice House Day was full of belonging and spirit—it was truly an amazing day for everyone.”
Even in the rain, Rice House shone brightly—living out the values of faith, service, and unity that define its namesake.
