Inclusive Sports Carnival

Erica Duffield

A spirited group of Kolbe students ranging from Years 7 to 10 recently seized an exciting opportunity to represent our College at the ACC Inclusive Sports Day. This day was not just about sports; it was a celebration of unity, fun, and the eagerness to explore something new.

Held at John XXIII College, the ACC Inclusive Sports Day aimed to provide students with a diverse range of sporting experiences in a lively and social atmosphere. This event was made possible through a collaborative effort, with the ACC teaming up with State Sporting Associations and other leading organisations to facilitate this delightful ‘have a go’ gala sports day. The event was skilfully run by experienced coaches and representatives, ensuring that every student had a chance to shine.

What truly set this day apart was its commitment to inclusion. Schools were encouraged to send a diverse group of students, promoting the integration of students with disabilities alongside their mainstream peers. The atmosphere was electric, fostering an environment where everyone felt a sense of belonging and camaraderie.

All participating students were treated to a plethora of sporting activities, with eight different options to choose from throughout the day. From the thrill of netball and the teamwork in soccer to the rough and tumble of AFL, the grace of volleyball, the excitement of rugby, and the finesse of tennis, there was something for everyone.

At Kolbe, we’re dedicated to offering incredible opportunities for students of all abilities. Witnessing our students wholeheartedly embrace inclusion, explore new experiences, and have an absolute blast was heartwarming. We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us for this special day, and we can’t wait to cheer on our incredible students once again next year!
