YOHFest Success

Performing Arts

Last week was an incredibly exciting and eventful time for Kolbe Catholic College as our talented students showcased their skills and creativity at the 2023 Act, Belong, Commit YOHFest Finals held at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. Schools from all across Western Australia gathered to compete in the finals after successfully navigating their respective heats earlier in the year. This year’s YOHFest theme, ‘Respect,’ provided a platform for our students to express their thoughts and emotions through dance and drama.

Our Senior Dance students delivered a mesmerising performance on Friday night. Their dance piece, ‘Unmasking Yourself from Toxicity,’ was choreographed by the talented Chelsea Sewell, a former KCC dance student. The girls put their heart and soul into their performance, leaving the audience spellbound. Although they didn’t secure a top place, we couldn’t be prouder of the way they represented our College. Their dedication and passion for dance were truly commendable.

The same evening, our Kolbe Theatre Company achieved an outstanding victory by securing First Place in the YOHFest ‘Filmed Drama’ Category. The compelling short play titled ‘Behind Closed Doors’ was written by our very own Drama Captain, Emily, and brilliantly performed by some of our Theatre Company’s talented Year 7 – 12 students. It was an incredible moment of recognition for the team, and Emily was present at MANPAC to collect the well-deserved trophy.

But the achievements didn’t stop there. Congratulations are also in order for our Year 10 Drama students: Ryley, Scarlett, Sesen, Chulu, and Isabelle, who clinched the Second Place in the YOHFest Commercial Competition. In this creative challenge, students were tasked with crafting a TV ad that promotes YOHFest sponsor, ‘Act, Belong, Commit.’ Their ad, titled “Looking after your wellbeing is as simple as ABC,” not only impressed the judges but also left everyone inspired.

Once again, congratulations to everyone who played a part in making these achievements possible, including our dedicated Drama teacher, Mrs. Sullivan. These successes are a testament to the incredible talent and hard work of our students, and it reflects the excellence we strive for at Kolbe Catholic College. We are immensely proud of our students for their outstanding performances and their ability to shine on such a prestigious stage.

These accomplishments remind us that Kolbe is a place where creativity, dedication, and talent are nurtured and celebrated. We look forward to more incredible performances and achievements from our students in the future. Bravo, Kolbe!
