On Friday, June 9th, the Year 11 cohort gathered to celebrate K-Fest, a remarkable event honouring the hard work and creativity of the ATAR English students. K-Fest showcased the documentaries created by these students, as well as the documentary trailers crafted by the English General students as part of their Year 11 English curriculum.
The festivities took place in Kolbe’s Stage 7 theatre, where we had the pleasure of watching the top 13 documentaries and documentary trailers. The event also featured awards for various categories, including the documentary with the most intriguing perspective, the one displaying the best technical work, the overall best documentary, and the overall best documentary trailer. These winners were selected by a panel of three judges.
Organised by the English Department, K-Fest was made possible with the assistance of Year 11 volunteers. Four dedicated students from the cohort supported the event by managing the lighting and sound, decorating Stage 7 to create an immersive experience, and assisting with the setup and cleanup process.
This festival not only recognises the creative talents of the Year 11 students but also serves as an opportunity for the entire cohort to come together and celebrate each other’s achievements. It allows those who may not typically receive recognition for their work to be acknowledged and appreciated by their peers. K-Fest fosters a sense of community and connection among the Year 11 students, showcasing the everyday work we do in our English classes.
K-Fest 2023 was an exceptional experience enjoyed by many. It highlighted the remarkable capabilities of the Year 11 students and demonstrated their commitment to excellence in the realm of English. As we reflect on this event, we are filled with a sense of pride for our peers and ourselves, as well as gratitude for the opportunity to be part of such a vibrant and supportive community.
