Each year, as part of their English course, the Year 8 cohort takes part in the KED Talks public speaking assessment, and each year the quality of the speeches, the topic choices and the performances gets better and better. The KED Talks program motto is ‘Find Your Voice’, and the Year 8s did just that!
In Week 6, the students presented their KED talk to two judges and their classmates. From this experience, the top two performers from each class were sent through to the KED Talks finals, which took place on Friday November 22.
Congratulations to these 16 students who were our finalists this year:
Kyra Evans, Emily Jagla, Bianca Morandin, Tarun Elapavalore Narender, Phoebe Park, Luis Villanueva, Chloe Galicia, Daisy Hingert, Fletcher Jones, Brodii Goncalves, Brielle Bonifacio, April Kelly, Maria Marco Barbosa, Kyla Wilson, Bailey Rowe and Emaan Dogan
This year our KED Talk judges were:
Mrs Deb Barraclough – Head of Year 8
Mr Rob Armitage – Head of English
Mr Peter Jones – Vice Principal
We thank them for their time and generosity.
The judges were universally impressed by the quality of talks and found it extremely difficult to arrive at the following Top FOUR Award Winners for 2024:
- Luis Villanueva: “The U.S. ‘IN’justice system”
- Emaan Dogan: “Finding true fulfilment”
- Tarun Elapavalore Narender: “The genius of Erno Rubik”
- Chloe Galicia: “What makes a genius a genius?”
Congratulations to all the KED Talk participants, particularly the sixteen finalists, and a special thank you goes out to all the Kolbe Catholic College English team, who all played a significant role in making the KED Talks competition a thrilling success.
