Kolbe’s High Achievers

Steve Gardener (Deputy Principal)

At Kolbe, recognition of excellence helps shape culture, inspire aspiration, and remind students of what we value most — not just performance, but perseverance; not only achievement, but growth; not simply success, but character. This term, we hosted our Principal’s Morning Tea to celebrate students who achieved outstanding reports in 2025. These happy gatherings are a moment to acknowledge not only strong academic results but also the dedication, the resilience, and the curiosity that lie behind each of these results.

Excellence is never just about marks. Genuine success comes from perseverance, thoughtful effort, and a willingness to challenge oneself. Research reminds us that when young people are recognised for their growth, strategy, and persistence, they develop stronger motivation and a healthier understanding of their abilities (Duckworth, A. 2009). The students honoured at our Principal’s Morning Tea demonstrated these qualities beautifully, showing that excellence is a habit cultivated over time.

Affirmation is especially powerful during adolescence when students are forming their sense of identity and belonging. Taking time to acknowledge students’ efforts publicly helps our young people recognise their own potential and reinforces that they are known, valued, and supported within our community (Seigel, D. 2014).

This celebration is a reminder of our Catholic mission of educating the whole person — mind, heart, and character. Recognising outstanding reports is one way we honour our students’ gifts, but it also reminds us of the broader goal: helping young people grow into confident, compassionate and capable individuals.

Congratulations to all our students recognised at the Principal’s Morning Tea. Their achievements inspire our entire Kolbe community.
