On Wednesday, 27 August, the students of MacKillop House came together to celebrate MacKillop Day, honouring their House patron, St Mary MacKillop. The day was filled with activities that recognised the life and legacy of Australia’s first saint, whose message of compassion, perseverance, and service to others continues to inspire the College community.
The celebrations began with a special House Mass, where students and staff reflected on the teachings of St Mary MacKillop and her call to “never see a need without doing something about it.” Following this, students enjoyed an extended PC session, giving them the chance to relax, recharge, and strengthen connections. Activities such as volleyball, “happy heart” challenges, and mindfulness moments created a positive and uplifting environment. As Duncan, MacKillop House Leader, said: “This is what I live for.”
Among the highlights of the day was seeing staff and students unite in service by baking more than 250 cupcakes, which were sold to raise over $800 for MacKillop’s new House Mission, Happy Pantry (Baldivis).
Overall, MacKillop Day was a powerful reminder of the strength of community and the importance of living out the values of kindness and service—qualities that continue to make MacKillop the greatest House in the College.
