Our Peer Support Leaders did an outstanding job supporting our Year 7 students during camp, stepping up with enthusiasm, creativity and a willingness to give everything a go. Each house group of leaders was tasked with designing and running activities for the Year 7s, and they rose to the challenge brilliantly.
Students worked collaboratively to plan their own sessions, with everyone contributing ideas and effort. The activities were diverse and creative, ranging from quizzes and multi-sport games to making personalised bandanas. While there were many highlights, the clear favourite was the water balloon activity – a welcome relief on what turned out to be a scorching hot day!
What was most impressive was the maturity and adaptability shown by our Peer Support Leaders. Some activities didn’t go exactly as planned, but this only added to the experience. Watching students think on their feet, adjust plans and keep Year 7s engaged gave them a real taste of what it can be like to be a teacher.
I am incredibly proud of how prepared the students were and the positive energy they brought to camp. Their efforts to build connections with the Year 7s were genuine and ongoing. This has continued back at school, with Peer Support Leaders spending time at lunch running dance-offs, basketball games, or simply chatting.
It is wonderful to see such strong connections forming between these two year groups.
