Pink Up KCC

Jenefer Wiltschut (Head of Wellbeing)

This week saw the Kolbe Community ‘Pink Up’ in support of the McGrath Foundation, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness of the impact of breast cancer across Australia. Sadly, around 58 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer every day, totalling over 21,000 every year. The McGrath foundation raises funds throughout the year to be able to provide specialised breast care nurses to patients affected by breast cancer. Since 2005 their incredible efforts have been able to provide support to 143,000 families.

Year 11 student leader Leon was the driving force behind the fundraising efforts for Pink Up KCC, and the day was a wonderful success due to his hard work and dedication. Leon’s Mum has received invaluable support from McGrath Foundation nurses during her fight against breast cancer and Leon worked selflessly to raise awareness of the cause.

In the lead up to the event, students were able to purchase pink accessories to wear on the day for a gold coin donation. Our D&T department also made a special effort by wearing pink tradie outfits for the day! A special mention goes to local soap maker ‘Pure Ratbag Soaps” who donated a very beautiful range of pink scented soaps to sell within our community in the weeks leading up to the fundraiser. We even had the special talents of Ms Schrandt and her talented team of Year 12’s painting faces for a gold coin donation!

The Kolbe community rose to the occasion by supporting Leon and this very worthy cause, donating an overwhelming supply of baked goods and sweet treats for our community bake sale at recess. A very special thanks must also go to the college P&F who very generously donated the soft drink and hot dog rolls for our sausage sizzle at lunchtime, as well as a sizable donation of 300 delicious sausages from Glen’s Gourmet Meats in the Rockingham City Shopping Centre. Sausage sizzles are a popular event at Kolbe, and with the support of our wonderful staff, as well as our fabulous student leaders on deck to help out, all proceeds from the lunch were able to go directly to the Foundation.

From the bottom of our hearts, to all of our wonderful staff, students and families, we say THANK YOU.
