This Term in Strive, our brilliant Year 9s swapped their pens for pixels and got their creative engines revving in a fantastic community competition all about road safety and reclaiming public spaces! Thanks to the City of Rockingham, the Rocky Beach Town Team, and Rockingham Rotary, our students had the chance to show that art can change the world… or at least slow down the traffic a bit!
The mission? Design a digital artwork that promotes safe driving while also jazzing up areas affected by graffiti, pollution, and other anti-social behaviours. Spoiler alert: our students crushed it.
Out of all the entries, four of our Strive legends had their designs chosen for their creative flair and spot-on safety messages:
- April – First Place
- Layla, Emily and Isla – Shared Second Place
These art-tastic designs didn’t just win applause — they were professionally printed on mesh banners and now shine bright along the vacant block in Rockingham – on the corner of Patterson Rd and Parkin Street. Talk about turning boring fences into bold statements!
Oh, and did we mention? These girls also scooped up over $800 in prizes from KD Cycles! More than just epic artwork, this competition showed our students something even more powerful: that the youth voice matters. Their vision helped transform a community space and made Rockingham a little safer (and a lot cooler).
Massive congratulations to April, Layla, Emily, and Isla — your work is not only seen but celebrated. So, next time you’re cruising through Rockingham, keep an eye out for their masterpieces. Trust us, they’re unmissable.
