Walking Together in Faith

Brendan Bomford (Director of Campus Ministry)

The College community gathered for our Opening Mass on the beautiful Avenue at the heart of the College grounds in the sunshine. The central focus was on the Catholic Church’s Jubilee and the theme ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. College Captain Isla insightfully reflected that “In a world overshadowed by challenges, ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ calls us to become beacons of resilience, fostering a community where hope thrives.” Indeed ‘hope’ is central to this Jubilee, we are all called to hope, and this message will be echoed throughout Kolbe in 2025.

Ministry Captain Pietro said of the celebration, “We all gathered on the Avenue and it was a great experience to see the whole school together because I felt that sense of community again.”

For us as a Catholic community, we find our hope in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus which is why it is crucial for us to celebrate around the table of the Eucharist. The Mass began with a presentation of symbols. Year 9 student Phoebe saw the connection between these symbols and the Jubilee year. “The rosary reminds us to pray… The key symbolises us unlocking spiritual doors… The door signifies the entrance to eternal life and lastly, the backpack reminds us that we are all on a spiritual journey.”

In 2025, we will travel this journey together, through the highs and lows, as ‘Pilgrims of Hope’.
