Rice House staff and students recently gathered to celebrate the life and charism of their patron, Blessed Edmund Rice, in a day centred on faith, fellowship and community spirit.
The celebration began in the College Chapel, where Fr Vijay reflected on the importance of hope and charity, encouraging students to continue living out the values modelled by Edmund Rice. Year 12 House Captains Macy and Lincoln also shared messages of renewal and hope with the House community.
“Edmund Rice reminds us that renewal begins when we open our hearts to others and place our trust in God’s call,” the captains shared in their address.
Following the liturgy, students and staff gathered on The Avenue to enjoy activities and spend time together in a spirit of kinship and belonging. The day provided an opportunity for students across all year groups to strengthen connections and celebrate the pride and identity of Rice House.
Rice House’s 2025 captains also generously assisted throughout the day, helping prepare the sausage sizzle and running a hot drinks stand. Their contribution reflected the unofficial Rice House motto, “Make your mum a cup of tea,” a phrase that captures the House’s spirit of service, hospitality and care for others.
Macy described the atmosphere of the day as one filled with “fellowship, friendship and fun games,” adding that it was “a day for everyone to come together and celebrate our patron saint.”
Lincoln said he was proud of the way Rice House students embraced the occasion. “We came together as a community, supported one another, and truly showed what it means to bleed green with pride,” he said.
