Year 12 Retreat

Brendan Bomford (Director of Campus Ministry)

As their final school year unfolds, our Year 12 students recently stepped away from the everyday to gather on retreat. An experience shaped by the powerful theme Crossroads, inspired by the words of the prophet Jeremiah: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it…” (Jeremiah 6:16).

The retreat offered more than just a break from routine — it created a sacred pause. It was a chance to reflect on the journey so far, be grounded in the present, and look ahead with faith and hope.

Over a few deeply moving days, students were invited into moments of stillness, laughter, sharing, and prayer, a powerful atmosphere of connection unfolded.

Ministry Captain Pietro captured the feeling well “Getting close with people I don’t hang out with” and “there was great buy-in, no negativity, which created a great atmosphere.”

That openness came the foundation of the retreat.

One of the most memorable aspects of the retreat was The God Seat—a space for students to share personal reflections of God in their lives and the moments that shaped their faith.

Kaden shared, “The God Seat prompted people to reflect on their faith in a way that I never expected.” Nic added, “New friendships were made… The God Seat created an awareness of people’s relationship with God through their personal experiences.”

For Leon, the retreat was an opportunity for him to reflect on the growth he’s experienced since Year 11: “Opening the letter that I wrote to myself was a highlight. I realise how I’ve grown. It was an inspiring opportunity to reflect on my goals as I approach a significant crossroads in my life.”

As our Year 12’s prepare to step forward into life beyond Kolbe, the retreat stood as a living reminder that the Spirit moves in community—and at every crossroads, God is near.
