Our Year 8 students recently welcomed their grandparents to Kolbe Catholic College for a special celebration marking the Church’s World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly.
Held near the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne—known as the grandparents of Jesus—this annual event honours the love, wisdom, and quiet strength that grandparents bring to our lives. It began with a reverent celebration of Mass, where students and grandparents sat side by side in prayer and reflection.
One particularly touching moment came as each student offered their grandparent a single flower—a simple yet heartfelt symbol of gratitude for the care, guidance, and everyday sacrifices that so often go unseen.
For many students, the day sparked reflection on the role their grandparents play.
“It helped me realise how much our grandparents love us and want to spend time with us,” added Georgia. “It was special to honour and celebrate everything they’ve done for us.”
The morning continued with a cheerful morning tea filled with conversation, laughter, and warm intergenerational moments—reminders of the important bonds that tie us together.
“I liked being able to sit with my grandparents during Mass and then read with my Grandpa,” shared Alexander. “Serving them tea was nice too—they do a lot for our family.”
We’re incredibly grateful to all the grandparents who joined us, and we give thanks for the love shared between generations—both at home and within our Kolbe community.
