It is hard to believe that two years have passed since our last cultural exchange with Keio Futsubu School. This year, the College was delighted to once again host 20 students and 3 staff members from our sister school, Keio Futsubu School, between 1st and 10th of August.
During their stay, they experienced an exciting immersion into Australian life and education. From learning how to sizzle sausages to trying unique Aussie tuckers, and attending various classes alongside our students, the exchange offered countless eye-opening moments. Our staff ran special lessons in cooking, metalwork, religious education, and visual arts, while other teachers welcomed the visitors into regular classes such as Italian, media and photography, performing arts and physical education.
It was very fortunate to witness the warm and respectful welcome our students showed to the Keio Futsubu students and staff. I am sure that many new friendships were formed, and we are proud that our students embraced the opportunity to connect across cultures.
On behalf of the College, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the 19 families who generously hosted the Japanese students. We have heard many wonderful stories of time spent together, cycling along the beach, cuddling koalas or cooking meals at home. Your support is what made this exchange truly special and successful.
Looking ahead, the excitement continues. In just six months, 15 Kolbe students, accompanied by Mr Futaki, Mr Jones, and Ms Trotter will travel to Japan for the College’s Japan Tour. We are already looking forward to reuniting with our friends at Keio Futsubu School and continuing this invaluable cultural connection.
