At Kolbe, we intentionally focus on the many contributions our students, staff, parents and wider community make to the College. At the end of Term 2, the College Executive team reflected on an experience that ‘filled our cup’, a moment of pride in the achievements of our students or staff that brought a smile to our face. The challenge was choosing just one moment, as we’re so often uplifted by the many meaningful interactions that happen each day, let alone across an entire term.

I have been incredibly proud of the Student Executive’s inspiring and engaging addresses at Kolbe’s Whole School Assemblies. Using creative approaches, from well-crafted videos to the heartfelt ‘Guess Who?’ tribute honouring Kolbe’s support staff, they’ve promoted a culture of respect for all. Their messages, delivered through innovative and meaningful methods, encourage the entire student body to act with integrity, perseverance, respect, and responsibility. Their Bin Brigade initiative exemplifies leadership in action, leaving a lasting legacy by helping to create a cleaner, more beautiful school environment.

Stepping into this role for the term has been both humbling and transformative. Working alongside staff who have offered an unwavering amount of support and help one another has been something I am deeply grateful for. We are blessed to have such a wonderful community.

Music Night reached a whole new level of camaraderie and joy. As a parent, seeing our children learn new instruments and perform in a group brings an immense feeling of pride. Witnessing students participate with such enthusiasm, backed by the support of parents and the encouragement of the audience, created a safe space for them to shine. For me, it exemplified what we’re all about at Kolbe.

It has been great to see the new facilities in Block 8 being used by staff and students, especially as we move into the final stages of construction on the new Sports Hall. The build is progressing well, with handover estimated for Term 4. This will provide plenty of time time for teaching and support staff to familiarise themselves with the new classrooms, fitness centre, and audiovisual installations, including TVs and LED screens.

My daughter and I had the joy of attending Kolbe’s Dance Night, and it was a truly special experience. Watching her, as a fellow lover of dance, witness the passion of our students for the artform was a memorable moment. I applaud the courage of all the performers, especially those who took to the stage solo or as part of the new boys’ dance group. It was a wonderful night and I felt incredibly blessed to be part of it.

I have enjoyed all the small moments this term where students and parents have shared their hopes and dreams for now and the future. Being part of enrolment interviews and hearing about the different gifts each child will bring to Kolbe helps me feel so optimistic about the future. Walking through the College with new families and being welcomed by students and teachers into classrooms and specialist rooms around the school is the best way to demonstrate the culture and learning that takes place here. From senior science students explaining to a nervous Year 5 student how they’re conducting an experiment, to watching a PE class perfecting an AFL kick on the oval, I’m reminded of all the opportunities at the College and the different ways our students are embracing them.
My sincere thanks to the whole Kolbe community for their efforts and support of one another throughout Term 2. I’m looking forward to welcoming back Mr Neil Alweyn for Semester 2 and wish all the Kolbe community a safe and enjoyable break.
